Released on March 5th 2019, The Occupation was a unique, atmospheric and interesting thriller. That was horribly riddled with bugs. Have things improved now it’s on Amazon Prime Gaming?

Yes and no.

The Occupation Game Splash

If you have Prime, pick it up. It’s free. Click, click, and you have it forever. Some of the bugs have been significantly ironed out, which is a big improvement, the many Steam reviews that complain about not being able to finish can be partially ignored.

However, the other features that still remain, and were major issues with full enjoyment of The Occupation, are still present. You can’t save often, with roughly an hour of gameplay between each of the manual save points in the game. The AI is still a bit sketchy, and it’s often going to seem like they have an inexplicable ability to detect where you are (which is often a problem in this type of game).

The Occupation Omnipresent Guard
Hello yes I know you’re in that room 7 corridors down, mouthbreather

Regardless, if you find yourself with nothing to do in the coming weeks, The Occupation remains a worthy distraction if you’re in to the Thriller/Crime genre, especially in the UK.

The Occupation is a fixed-time, investigative thriller set in North West England on Saturday 24th October, 1987. Your role is to uncover evidence as a journalist by sneaking through restricted areas and questioning people on their actions through a series of one-on-one interviews. All this takes place in a detailed, systems-driven world where people will react to your actions and where time is your biggest enemy.

It’s been quoted as being similar to Bioshock in feel. Not in gameplay, don’t go thinking this is a boom boom shooter. But it feels akin to Bioshock set in the UK, the internet whispers rumour.
