GONNER 2 Splash

Released on October 22nd, GONNER 2 is a fast-paced roguelike platformer, the sequel the fairly successful and definitely fun GONNER. Even better, the game is now part of Xbox Game Pass for PC, so members can pick up and blast through this title with their friends, all for ‘free’.

The Gonner series is a notoriously difficult title, with a bright, bold art style and quirk aesthetic. It’s sometimes hard to tell what’s going on in this vibrant game, but this doesn’t detract from the intense joy of finishing an area in this ever so hard platformer/shooter/roguelike. Now with the capability of multiplayer!

The title came with a beat blasting trailer, something that made the first GONNER properly shine for me. There’s nothing better then blasting through a slick, fast-paced game with a full on bopping soundtrack. Take a look for yourself:

There’s no questioning how brutal it is, but the changes made in the second GONNER title should, in theory, make it much easier and more enjoyable.

Players can now shoot in any direction, as opposed to just the 4 main axis. This is a massively needed change to me, my main gripe with the original GONNER being exactly that. It used to be that you had to jump, reposition, sometimes outright running back and forth through the level in order to hit an enemy. NO MORE!

In addition, co-op has now been added for up to 4 players, a feature that would again have made the original much more of a blast. They’ve improved on exactly the aspects that needed changing, so here’s hoping the title makes the first GONNER a goner, ha, haha.

I’ll be playing through the new GONNER 2 in the near future and writing up a review, but for now, find the title on PC, Xbox One, or Switch, if you want to see for yourself.
