Splinter Cell

It’s officially time for Sam Fisher to step out of the shadows after a decade of waiting, as Ubisoft Toronto has started work on a remake of Splinter Cell.

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell was released on the PS2 as well as the original Xbox in 2002, and aimed to “redefine” stealth action games. Since then NSA black ops agent Sam Fisher has become synonymous with the genre, donning the tactical black suit as well as his iconic night vision goggles in many games (though not so much recently). Ubisoft Toronto has revealed that they are in fact reviving the franchise after it went dark following 2013’s Blacklist. The new title is set to be a remake of the first game, being reworked from the ground up – we just hope that you can still shoot the fish tank (if you know, you know).

Ubisoft has greenlit the development of a Splinter Cell remake that will draw from the rich canvas of the brand. Led by Ubisoft Toronto, the game will be rebuilt from the ground up using Ubisoft’s own Snowdrop engine – the same engine being used to develop Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, as well as Ubisoft’s upcoming Star Wars game – to deliver new-generation visuals and gameplay, and the dynamic lighting and shadows the series is known for.

There is currently no indication as to when to expect the game to be released as work on the project has only just started, but the fact that Splinter Cell is retuning has certainly made our week a little bit better.
