Sonic looking out over a valley

Sega have officially revealed their next Sonic game – Sonic Frontiers, which is set to be an open-world experience that will see the blue hedgehog traverse expansive open areas for the first time ever.

Sonic Team, headed by Sachiko Kawamura and game director Morio Kishimoto have been busy working on their next big title, which was teased at a Sonic event in May. We now know that it will be called Sonic Frontiers, and that it will be an “open-zone experience”, which will see the gaming icon in a completely open setting for the first time. It was also confirmed at a Sonic livestream by Justin Thormann that the “entire voice cast” will be returning for the game, so expect to see some familiar faces.

From the screenshots below we can see that Sonic will be travelling to some impressive scenery, including ruins, vast grasslands and waterfall areas. The game is slated for a ‘Holiday 2022’ release and will be available on PS5 & PS4, Xbox Series X & S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
