Rage 2

Rage 2

Unsurprisingly in the build up to E3, there was a leak unofficially announcing a handful of games. The list of games were mistakenly uploaded to a Walmart webpage in Canada, and included the likes of Gears of War 5, Forza Horizon 5 (for some reason skipping over 4) and Rage 2.

This Rage sequel was one of the more curious listings because the first game hadn’t really made too much of a splash in the water, and it wasn’t the first game on the tip of everyone’s tongue to be anticipating this year.

Bethesda had quickly regained control of the PR wagon and turned the leak into somewhat of an internet joke, creating memes, much discussion on the internet, and then eventually a series of teases, confirmed an announcement was going to happen later on in the week. We were given a brief reveal trailer, before a juicier gameplay trailer which you can watch above, not just confirming Rage 2, but making quite the statement that it is a game you should be excited for.

The trailer is completely bonkers, splashing colour in with humour, explosions and car-nage. The game is being developed by Avalanche Studios, and id Software, which is something to really get excited about. Avalanche have worked on the Just Cause franchise, famed for its hyperbolic explosions and destruction, in addition to working on the 2015 Mad Max game, which had cracking car combat mixed in with Batman-esc fights and equally satisfying explosions. Furthermore, id Software have recently brought us the insanely cathartic DOOM, this too a game of exaggerative chaos, gore and satisfying gameplay. Imagine putting these studios, or moreover, these three games, all together in one package…

Bethesda provided further insight in saying: “From monster trucks to gyrocopters, use an assortment of rugged and wasteland-ready vehicles to speed across the badlands. If you see it, you can drive it” and “Ruthless and bloodthirsty gangs roam the open roads and the tyrannical Authority seek to rule with an iron fist”. How does that sound? Well if you are still not sold, what if we told you Bethesda also called this game “a f***ing AAAAAA game” as it is a AAA from Avalanche and a AAA from id Software together. We are certainly excited for the mayhem that will ensue in Spring 2019.
