Sea of Thieves, having first been announced at E3 2015, is finally getting a full release date, launching on Xbox One and PC on March 20th 2018. The trailer, which you can watch above, was shown off at the Video Game Awards.

Sea of Thieves has had a unique trip to release, having been playable for the majority of 2017 already. Players could sign up for multiple technical alphas, in addition to a beta this month. The Xbox insider programme has seemingly been a great promotional mechanism for Sea of Thieves, and it has really enabled fan feedback shape the final form of the game.

The game has received criticism from some gamers, questioning who it is made for, and claiming it may alienate those who play alone online, or won’t be able to gather a full crew together. But if our word is worth anything to you, you definitely need to try it to see how it hooks you, and even playing with strangers online during the alpha was enjoyable. The sign-up for the beta this month has already closed, but you won’t have long to wait for the full release of the game.
