Prodeus is a retro shooter made with modern hardware, improving on the tech-imposed limits of older titles, while keeping the charm and unique feeling that made them special.
It has some very high reviews on Steam – where it has been released for a couple of years now, and is finally being ported for the benefit of us poor console peasants. I for one never got the chance to play it, but certainly like the look, and will be considering a purchase depending on that ever important question – the price!
The developer, Bounding Box Software Inc. hasn’t made a game since the success of its PC release, perhaps hard at work on these console ports, perhaps having a well deserved break. They also seem to be a small team which makes the achievement all the more impressive.
It is very Doom, and whether that’s a good thing or not is down to you! I for one have been loving the retro revival that’s been happening the past few years, and look forward to a time when hopefully AAA games move past the ‘look as good as possible requirement’, and start looking more stylistically at development.
