The Initiative, the supposed ‘quadruple A’ studio staffed up by Microsoft since 2018 has been working on something… and now we know what it is. Perfect Dark, the iconic shooter from the OG Xbox era, has been dormant for 15 years and was previously developed by Rare, and now it’s back.

Whether this is a full blown reboot or will carry on from the previous games it is not known, but studio head Darrell Gallagher stated in a recent blog post:

“With Perfect Dark, we’re aiming to deliver a secret agent thriller set in a near-future world…We have built the Perfect Dark team at The Initiative by bringing in some of the most talented game makers from around the industry who all share a passion for storytelling, world-building and creating memorable game experiences. With the full backing from Xbox Studios to re-imagine one of the best loved IPs from gaming history, we couldn’t be more excited to share some of our early ideas.”

The trailer certainly teases us, but considering the game will be early in development, chances are we won’t be playing the game for some time.
