No Man's Sky NEXT

No Man’s Sky has received a giant update, named NEXT, which has brought with it significant game improvements among other things.

No Man's Sky

The game, developed by controversial studio Hello Games, released in 2016 to considerable hype generated by studio head Sean Murray. The game was a recognised disappointment, not being able to live up to promises made before launch, however, NEXT has strived to remedy the main criticisms of No Man’s Sky, patching in the talked about key features years later.

What changed?

No Man’s Sky NEXT now allows players to play online, allowing those wanting to explore the universe with a friend the chance to do so. Third-person is also available, allowing players to see their player models. Also included in the NEXT update is; an improvement to the UI and graphics, unlimited base-building, deeper crafting, procedurally generated player equipment, and general improvements to alien species (yes the animations look better now).

A little while after the release of No Man’s Sky NEXT, Hello Games has planned its first season of weekly content and community events. This will be free for all players, with no microtransactions.

We are also launching a new website dedicated to the community, which we’re calling the Galactic Atlas. The site features points of interest in the No Man’s Sky Euclid Galaxy, all nominated by you through the survey we created earlier this month. This will grow in functionality and expand over time, in part through your feedback. – Sean Murray, Hello Games.

No Man's Sky
Could one of 2018’s best games have been released in 2016?

Though the game now offers a complete experience, one which players were teased back in 2016, first impressions may have turned many away. That being said, the NEXT update has dropped at the right time, with not many AAA games currently being released. This has resulted in the update propelling No Man’s Sky back into the UK charts, and is now available to download on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

What do you think to the No Man’s Sky NEXT update? Is it too little too late, or is it enough to convince you to play again? Let us know in the comments or over on Facebook & Twitter!
