Outer Worlds tips

So, you got Outer Worlds during the holidays and are still yet to play it before all the big releases drop this year? Well you’re in luck as James brings you 5 things to look out for while playing.

Outer Worlds tips

Lost in transit while on a colonist ship bound for the furthest edge of the galaxy, you awake decades later than you expected only to find yourself in the midst of a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy the Halcyon colony.

As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter a host of factions all vying for power, who you decide to become will determine the fate of everyone in Halcyon. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.

Explore Halcyon!

Make sure that you do all of the side quests in the game before completing the main story, as upon doing this the Outer Worlds doesn’t allow for further exploration upon completion. Hopefully this is remedied with DLC but time will tell.

Outer Worlds tips
Nice Mega Raptidon…

Create YOUR character

Get your character looking right before you start (if you care), as you will not be able to change this in-game. There’s currently no option to go third-person so this isn’t a big deal, but for those perfectionists, get it right first time, as you won’t be able to, for instance, get a haircut (even though there’s a barber in the first city).

Create YOUR build

Specialise in something, and don’t be afraid to take on a Spacer’s Choice flaw if one pops up… sometimes they reveal new options. Whether it’s smooth talking your way around a situation, or brute-forcing your way through, specialising by putting your experience points into a specific category is a good idea. You probably won’t be unlocking everything in one playthrough anyway.

The on-the-nose retro ads add atmosphere and humour to the game.

Grow YOUR family

Recruit the companions. You will most likely meet all six on your journey around Halcyon and they are definitely worth having on board the Un-reliable; as each character has their own special skills that can be used in combat, as well as unique questlines.

Use YOUR items

Use your items in a pinch. Easy to forget about in a game like Outer Worlds, single-use items are actually really good at, say, increasing your charisma briefly so that you can pass a dialogue option you wouldn’t have been able to otherwise. “Zero Gee Brew, Good For What Ails You.”
