With the release of Beenox’s Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, players from all around the world are competing to see just who is the fastest. Whether it’s Adventure mode, Online, or Time Trials, here are a quick few tips to help you reach N. Sane speeds.

Crash Team Racing
Crash (and Cortex) are revamped and Nitro-Fueled.

Use items

In CTR items are mainly of use in Adventure mode, races/cups and Battle mode. They have different uses depending on the mode you play, but collecting wumpa from crates as well as using offensive/defensive items can be key to victory. Other items such as the speed boost and Aku Aku/Uka Uka will also add to your speed, so watch out for those.

Know the track

A good way to do this is by completing the Time Trials, as in order to face Nitrous Oxide (ghost), you have to play through the track until you set some pretty quick lap times. Although be careful, as some devious tracks can reverse (looking at you Oxide Station).

Pro tip: Knowing each track’s shortcuts is imperative, especially if you want to nab first place in online races.

Crash Team Racing
Races with friends can get chaotic, so watch your back!

Know your opponent

Whether it’s a boss race, the above mentioned Oxide Time Trials, or even other players, knowing their strengths and weaknesses could help you. For instance say you have a lobby full of Dingodiles but the race requires lots of turns, consider using a character with stats in acceleration or turning instead. Or just hold onto a missile or two…

Know your racer

This may or may not be obvious, but some characters have different stats, making the choice of racer important depending on which track you play. For example, a tight, bendy track like Slide Coliseum lends itself more to a character with good turning such as Polar, whereas other tracks might benefit from the speedy Tiny Tiger.

Pro tip: Don’t be put off by some character’s apparent lack of speed, they can more than make up for it using the following method.

Booost!

Basically every corner (and sometimes even straights) needs to be met with a power-slide and a speed boost (L1 + R1). These need to then be combined with boost pads, which are the most important thing a racer can look for when it comes to gaining and maintaining speed. Plus, it’s the only way to obtain sacred flame (and the ridiculously fast blue flame).

Start your engines

The Grand Prix event is currently underway from July 3rd to the 28th, allowing players to collect Nitro in return for completing races and challenges. The event was announced by CTR TV, bringing back the charismatic duo of Chick and Stew.

Along with new gear and characters, players can also expect to race around a new track with every event. New content for Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is also available in the games’ Pit Stop shop. For more information visit crashbandicoot.com.
