So yeah, I’ve got disco fever and all I’ve been able to think about is this game… Disco Elysium: The Final Cut.
Disco Elysium: The Final Cut is an RPG, a role-playing game that explodes right from the moment you pick up the controller and press start, dropping players into the thick of it as they try frantically to piece together the events of the night before, and what has lead them to be in such a state.

Developed and published by ZA/UM, the game features ‘checks’ that players can pass or fail depending on their stats. These can be increased by levelling up, and also by doing things such as putting a hat on or drinking (you may have done enough of that though). The interesting part is that these stats ‘talk’ to each other inside your head, as well as argue and try to sway your decision making. This leads to some hilarious moments, pass or fail, and help to highlight what is an extremely well-written story. An example of what the game has to offer can be found at the start; where I almost had a heart attack trying to get my tie down from a ceiling fan. Yeah, Disco Elysium is that kind of game.
The game progresses as you wake from a drunken slumber to find that your partner, lieutenant Kim Kitsuragi, is ready for you to begin solving a murder case that has been hanging over the town of Martinaise for nearly a week. You are also tasked with searching for clues as to who you are along the way (the hangover was that bad), and this makes up the majority of the game. Take on cases and solve mysteries to the best of your ability, and in any way you want to.
Disco Elysium – The Final Cut is the definitive edition of the groundbreaking role playing game. You’re a detective with a unique skill system at your disposal and a whole city block to carve your path across. Interrogate unforgettable characters, crack murders, or take bribes. Become a hero or an absolute disaster of a human being.

The reason I’m not going in-depth and doing a full review here is simple, what I write cannot do the game justice. It’s just a truly unique, well-written, ‘point and click’ CRPG for the ages, and if you’re a fan of a good story I wouldn’t hesitate in picking it up. The addition of superb voice acting, included in The Final Cut (recently released on PlayStation) just adds to this.
Disco Elysium is easily the best role-playing game I’ve experienced in years, you just have to play it to see why. Go on, have a boogie.
