It’s been a while now since Nioh 2 was released, though there have been whisperings of DLC stirring in the depths. As a little tease of what’s to come, Team Ninja have released have sizeable free update, with 9 new missions to play (both sub-missions and twilight).
In addition, they’re bringing a photo mode into Nioh 2, to allow the player to ‘capture the demonic enemies in their full glory’. I’m personally not a fan of photo modes, but the in-depth camera settings sound interesting, plus I do need to get some suitably grim snaps of my neon-haired samurai captured. Photo mode is certainly more interesting for me when it’s a character I’ve created and forged, like in Dark Souls. It would’ve been nice to capture the moment I finally took down Ornstein and Smough for the first time, for sure.
In addition, they’ve finally announced the DLC release date and what it’s going to encompass. The Tengu’s Disciple, the first DLC pack, is set to kick off July 30th, with all new difficulty levels and end-game content, in a similar nature to the first games DLC additions. A quote to tease what it’s going to be about is as follows:
“A great battle has taken place at Yashima in the late Heian period. As a visitor in Yashima, our protagonist finds a shrine possessing a mysterious whistle called the Sohayamaru. Upon inspection, the whistle shines radiantly as the shadow of Yokai can be seen lurking in the background. It is revealed that whenever wars take place, heroes wielding the Sohayamaru will head into battle in order to restore peace back into this land.”
There will be three DLC packs in total, with a number of new yokai, bosses, Guardian Spirits, skills, and of course armour and weapons. A new type of weapon will be revealed, one that ‘alters the performance of skills outside of set stances’. We’ll get to see exactly what that means upon testing!
