The article that looks at the most interesting PC games that will be released next week (commencing 10/05/2021). They may or may not be good. But the point is they look interesting. Because the fun of playing games needs to be rekindled. Less business, less negativity, more of the pure joy of gaming. Hopefully this covers a wide enough spread of titles to entice any casual or “hardcore” gamer alike. Think I missed a title? Tweet or DM me and I’ll see about adding it to the wonderful list.
Mass Effect™ Legendary Edition – Releasing 14/05/2021
The Mass Effect™ Legendary Edition includes single-player base content and over 40 DLC from the highly acclaimed Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3 games, including promo weapons, armors, and packs — remastered and optimized for 4K Ultra HD.
An incredible series that you have to play if you haven’t been able to yet (unless you hate space or sci-fi games for some reason, you maniac), all wrapped up in a tight little package for the lucky modern gamer. If you’ve already played through then I’m not certain I’d recommend this as much, but that’s all down to you. I never completed the series, so I’m sorely tempted to pick this one up, but it would absorb so much time….
Buyer beware, this trilogy could take months off your life, make your partner worry about where on earth you’ve gone and why you keep crying on the phone, and ruin your expectations for future RPGs, all at once.
Hood: Outlaws & Legends – Releasing 10/05/2021
In a violent, medieval world, outplay rival gangs in intense PvPvE multiplayer heists. Moving in stealth to steal treasures unseen or dominating through loud and brutal combat, only the best will escape with hard-earned riches.
Two teams of 4 compete to carry out the perfect heist against a slew of deadly AI guards. I’m not going to lie, on initial look at the game I wasn’t that excited, but after learning more about the style of games my attention has certainly perked up. I adore the type of game that throws AI against you AS you’re fighting other players, meaning encounters are much less predictable and each player can use the environment to their advantage in much more stylish ways than simply blowing up a fire pot, or releasing a pre-placed trap.
While I’m minorly worried that once all the AI paths are known, the game will get a little stale, there are many ways the developer could prevent this from happening too quickly, but how well that’s been done remains to be seen. Either way, I welcome more of this type of game.
The Hand of Merlin – Releasing 11/05/2021
The Hand of Merlin is a turn-based rogue-lite RPG in which Arthurian legend meets with sci-fi horror. Recruit mortal heroes to explore lands rife with otherworldly evil, make narrative bending choices in unique interactive encounters, and search for the lost fragments of your soul across the multiverse!
Taking a leaf from the RPG tree of Divinity, The Hand of Merlin looks to be attempting to replicate what worked, and turn it into a roguelike experience. Randomly generated maps, routes, stories will take centre stage in seeing whether this game holds itself proud. It’s possible but risky to that a roguelike approach in a genre that thrives on interesting stories with impeccable pacing, but titles like X-Com have shown it’s possible to latch onto characters even if they die permanently, often, and brutally. How well it’s done will determine all of that here.
Base One – Releasing 11/05/2021
Base One is a space base builder game where you take control of a network of space stations and its crew’s tasks and wellbeing. Maintain your resources and defenses as you navigate the wide array of dangers ahead of you!
I’ll admit it, I’m a sucker for space games. The whole genre just excites me. However, it’s a genre that’s rapidly becoming saturated with both good and bad, and it’s increasingly difficult to tell which a new title will be.
That said, I’m still keeping an eye out on games such as this, as my dream of the perfect space sim will surely one day be achieved. Please.
HUNTDOWN – Releasing 12/05/2021
In the mayhem-filled streets of the future where criminal gangs rule and cops fear to tread, only the bounty hunters can free the city from the corrupt fist of felony. Lay waste to the criminal underworld and make a killing in this hard boiled action comedy arcade shooter.
Great looking retro graphics? Bosses like the incredible Bad Boy Bob? Count me in. ’nuff said.
Sacrificial Lighthouse – Releasing 12/05/2021
You are a girl called Maya who ends stranded in island with a lighthouse during a storm. What is this strange place? How did she get here? What to do next? Explore this small island and lighthouse to understand what happened to Maya.
Don’t Starve style art, with a steam description that outright says “A game with an overwhelming storyline that will crush your heart, leaving behind a gaping void of hopelessness.” Surely this amount of confidence and foreboding must mean it’s good!
Before We Leave – Releasing 13/05/2021
Before We Leave is a non-violent city building game set in a cozy corner of the universe. Nurture your Peeps and their surroundings while rebuilding and rediscovering civilisation. Settle new lands and planets while avoiding hungry Space Whales.
Non-violence? What do you MEAN non-violence?
Before We Leave leaves combat and strategising to decimate your foes behind, and instead leaves you to fight -yourself- and the impact that you have on the natural world. It looks cute, whether it has the depth to keep my attention is my main concern, but that’s just cause I’m picky. Either way this will likely be a wonderfully chill game to scratch any base-building itches you have.
GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon – Releasing 13/05/2021
Getsu Fuma Descends It has been 1000 years since the first leader of the Getsu clan defeated the demon lord Ryukotsuki, driving demons back into Hell and restoring order to the world. But when Ryukotsuki abruptly returns and all hell breaks loose, it falls unto a new hero to rise against the threat.
As the chosen leader and guardian of the land of the living, wield the otherworldy arsenal and powers of the Getsu clan as you descend deeper into the depths of Hell to eradicate the source of the cataclysm.
Noch – Releasing 16/05/2021
Go alone (or with a friend) to find the girl who destroyed the world. An ominous surreal first-person adventure full of dangerous monsters and secrets of the deceased world.
Can you survive if the nature of things as they are is destroyed? And what will you do if you meet the one that is hard to remember and impossible to forget? The one responsible for the endless night and darkness?
Steam Description
I’m wary of pretty much all indie survival horrors, mostly because it’s extremely easy to make one from premade assets and extremely easy to make everything look good in the dark, because it’s dark. You can’t see bad graphics in the dark. It’s dark.
That said, this looks better than most, and who doesn’t like playing co-op in a survival horror? Someone to scream with always helps.
