Lightmatter Preview – Stay out of the Shadows

Lightmatter Featured

Tunnel Vision Games releases Lightmatter next week. On the 15th January we’ll be treated to a unique looking puzzler, the first game from the small studio, where the shadows are like lava.

Lightmatter Game

Now the shadows aren’t really lava, that makes no sense. But in the upcoming puzzle-adventure game, Lightmatter, shadows do kill you, much in the same way lava does. If you ever played the floor is lava, you get the reference, if not… here’s some homework:

Lightmatter is a game where you can’t touch the shadows. Touch these shadows in fact, and you’ll be absorbed into the darkness. They absorb organic material, so no dropping your Dominoes, either. The thing is, these shadows are everywhere, and you need to get past them to escape. You go about this by problem solving through the puzzling levels of Lightmatter Technologies, a facility hidden deep within a mountain. Said to play akin to other titles like Portal, or The Witness, the game is meant to be 4-5 hours long (depending on how good you are at these kind of things).

Think of it as “the floor is lava” but with shadows instead.

Spotlights seem to be a major tool in scoping out some levels

The game tells a story about an inventor called Virgil, (not to be confused with DMC5’s Vergil), who has discovered a new type of energy known as Lightmatter. You’ll be investigating a facility where this type of energy is hidden, while Virgil speaks to the player, trying to help them escape. Possibly. We know how devious the true motivates of these kind of folk can be… check out the trailer below for a sneak peek!

Lightmatter is being developed by a small studio known as Tunnel Vision Games, who expanded upon a project they began in 2013 at university, fully beginning work on the game in 2016 when they formed the company, to release the treat that we’re getting next week.

In a twist that means they must be extremely confident in their game, you can play the first hour of Lightmatter free. The next 4 or so hours can be unlocked by purchasing the game, and you’ll keep your progress on to the full game. If you’re on the fence then, download it when it releases, and give the demo a shot to see, what do you have to lose? Aside from your ability to sleep in the dark.

I for one can’t wait to see if Lightmatter will be the hidden gem it looks like, and wish Tunnel Vision Games the best with their launch! Stay tuned, and don’t forget, stay out of the shadows.
