With the absence of Sony at E3, Microsoft had the stage to themselves to announce upcoming games and some brand-new hardware.
Project Scarlett
After opening E3 2019, Microsoft gave fans a glimpse into the future, ‘Holiday 2020’ for that matter, when they unveiled Project Scarlett. The new console seems to want to eliminate loading screens, as it claims to be x4 times as powerful as the Xbox One X.
“This generation is going to be a bigger leap than any other generation we’ve done before.” This claim was backed up with promises of 8K resolution, 120 frames per second, next gen ray tracing, and using the SSD as ‘virtual RAM’.
One thing that Xbox has been lacking recently – exclusive games, is also something that was addressed, with Microsoft stating that they are working on future titles with their developers, as well as allowing backwards compatibility through the Game Pass. Phil Spencer highlighted this by saying, “I don’t lose my last generation as I move into the next generation.” This all seems to suggest that absolutely everything that the Xbox One can do, Scarlett can do, only better.
Halo Infinite
Speaking of exclusive games, the launch of Project Scarlett will coincide with Halo Infinite, the trailer for which can be seen below.
Here Master Chief is brought back from the brink of death to once again fight for humanity.
Gears 5
Sticking with the theme of exclusives, Gears 5 was also revealed with its Escape mode.
This seems to be a co-op survival mode, as players fight off the Locust hive whilst trying to ‘escape’ from multiple dangers.
Blair Witch
A new horror game, Blair Witch, was also announced at the event, and yes I personally won’t be playing it.
Following on from the 1999 film, Blair Witch focuses around similar environments and ‘found footage’, which seems to play akin to games like Outlast, and it’s a big bag of scary nope.
Also revealed was the newest Cyberpunk 2077 trailer, as well as the new FromSoftware game Elden Ring. Click the links to view their individual announcements.
