Sony have now held their E3 press conference, but what happened; was it good, bad or just not memorable? But most importantly, what games were shown?
There was a lack of big announcements at Sony’s press conference this year, but that’s not to say it was boring. Sony focused more on showing what upcoming games will be coming to the PlayStation 4, and less on hardware. This is possibly due to the fact that both PlayStation VR and the PS4 Pro have recently released.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
The adventure series, developed by The Last of Us creators Naughty Dog, trades lead character Nathan Drake for Chloe and Nadine in Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Creative Director Neil Druckmann tweeted that he is excited to share more about Joel and Ellie’s second journey, however, “It’s Chloe and Nadine’s time to shine.”
Days Gone
More gameplay of open-world zombie game Days Gone was shown, detailing how players can interact with the environment. In the gameplay trailer, seen in the conference video above, it was demonstrated that zombies won’t be the only enemies, and a stealth approach may have to be taken to avoid armed gangs. Either that or you can unleash a horde of undead on them.
Call of Duty: WW2
A Multiplayer trailer for the upcoming Call of Duty: WW2 was also shown, highlighting the new features players can expect to see at launch, and during the private beta on August 25. Highlights included gory, realistic-looking gameplay, a slew of classic era weaponry, and what seemed to be controllable vehicles.
Shadow of the Colossus HD remake
A fan-favourite PS2 game, Shadow of the Colossus will be receiving a PS4 HD remake. The game joins a growing list of ‘remade’ titles, however, was well received at the event. Time to surf on horseback again.
God of War
More stunningly violent footage from the new God of War game was displayed, showing that Kratos hasn’t lost his edge. “It’s a new beginning for Kratos. Living as a man, outside the shadow of the gods, he seeks solitude in the unfamiliar lands of Norse mythology…” – God of War.
Detroit: Become Human
A trailer for narrative-driven Detroit: Become Human premiered, detailing a dystopian future in which a vigilante named Marcus plans to set his fellow androids free. David Cages’s studio Quantic Dream have yet to announce when the game will release.
Horizon Zero Dawn
Horizon Zero Dawn is also set to receive an expansion, called The Frozen Wilds, which apart from the ‘frozen’ part doesn’t give much away. All that s known is that it will expand upon the main game, as Aloy still looks for answers.
The Inpatient
The prequel to horror game Until Dawn, The Inpatient is set to take place in the creepy Blackwood Sanatorium. Supermassive Games’ latest jump-scare filled experience will be set 60 years prior to the events of Until Dawn.
Spider-Man
Sony closed out the show with a gameplay trailer from Insomniac’s Spider-Man. In the trailer Spidey-fans were shown how navigation and combat would work in-game, as the web-slinger made his way through a construction site. The game is slated for a 2018 release.
