Call of Duty: Warzone custom loadout guide

Call of Duty: Warzone

So, I meant to do this Warzone loadout guide a while back, before the integration of Black Ops Cold War into Modern Warfare’s Warzone mode, when the Kilo still reigned supreme. However, three seasons later here it is; the definitive guide to custom class loadouts in Call of Duty: Warzone.

What is a loadout in battle royale? Well, it’s a player-selected custom class that you take into the battlefield and can equip when a loadout is called in at a buy station (for a juicy £10,000). The easiest way to currently do this is to successfully land on and complete scavenger contracts (the ones with the magnifying glass icon) and collect cash along the way.

Perks

First, let’s go over the perks you need to be competitive as there are quite a few to choose from, but some are better than others when it comes to Modern Warfare’s answer to battle royale.

Ghost. An essential for any class, especially in solos, Ghost allows the user to stay off of enemy radars when a UAV is active, and in Warzone this is often (and this will save your life). Pair this with a suppressor to be a stealth god and hope an Advanced UAV isn’t called in (multiple UAVs will still give you away). A pro tip is to get the loadout you want first (e.g. Overkill), then use a second loadout (it will have probably fallen down by this point if you are still alive) to obtain your ‘Ghost class’.

Overkill is the perk to use for a first loadout as it enables the player to equip two primary weapons, though competes with the powerful Ghost in the second perk slot. Late-game avoid this and go Ghost, but at the start Overkill is a great choice to get set up. In the first slot EOD is king as it allows you to withstand explosive damage (more than normal), though Cold-Blooded to counter thermal scopes and High Alert, and Double Time for extended sprinting distance are ones to consider. In the third slot I would typically always run Amped as it allows for very fast weapon swaps, handy if you have two primary weapons. If you only have the one gun however, Hardened is a great choice for resistance to tacticals such as stuns grenades.

Weapons & attachments

More subjective than perks, the guns you choose to take into Verdansk should be based on your favourite Multiplayer weapons, just with attachments to make them viable for Warzone.

These attachments will most likely consist of the Monolithic Suppressor (to keep off of the radar and boost range & bullet velocity), a grip of some kind (Commando is the most popular), a sight if the iron sights aren’t great, the longest barrel available (helps to boost range and control recoil), and an extended magazine so you can down multiple targets without reloading.

Over the past few updates there have been many meta weapons. The Grau 5.56 was top tier for Season 3 due to its range and accuracy, then the Bruen MK9 LMG took over, then the Kilo 141 assault rifle rose to the top, then players discovered the R9-0 shotgun, and most recently the Cold War DMR (which was super broken) became the sweaty weapon of choice.

Example classes

Usually my loadout consists of an assault rifle (I like the Kilo, RAM-7 & M13) and a nice sniper (HDR, Kar98k & SP-R 208), for those consistent long range kills. An assault & SMG/shotgun combination also works well for close engagements and inside buildings, and is perfect for those who don’t like sniping.

Kilo 141
The Kilo is probably my favourite rifle in Warzone. It can be kitted out in so many different ways…
Kilo & HDR

My Kilo 141 & HDR setup is my go-to loadout for squads in Call of Duty: Warzone. This class is an upgraded version of my first ever class, which consisted of an M4A1 and an AX-50. The Kilo, in my opinion, is more accurate and easy to control than the M4 (which I prefer in Multiplayer), and the HDR just hits harder and has less bullet drop than the AX. This Overkill class, which utilises accuracy and long range capability can be paired with any of the three first slot perks mentioned above, Overkill (obviously), and Amped. A Ghost class is then recommended for late-game to get off the radar and enemy heartbeat sensors.

Grau & RPG

A fantastic class for solos or for those who like to take out vehicles, this Grau loadout is the perfect blend of stealth (with a suppressor) and long range lethality. One of the most versatile guns in Warzone, the Grau can compete at any range with range-extending attachments, and the RPG, combined with a semtex or C4, allows you to take out those pesky truck abusers. Ghost is the natural selection here, and with the Fully Loaded weapon perk this makes a great ‘last loadout’ selection.

AMAX & MP5

This could be “any assault rifle and an MP5.” Hands down the best short range weapon to choose, the MP5 is the perfect selection for clearing out small rooms fast. Though it stands out on its own, when paired with the high damage CR-56 AMAX, this class is an instant winner. Though I personally need to use the AMAX more I respect its damage potential, and recoil controlling attachments, extended mags and a Corp Combat Holo Sight are the best options for it. You could even swap out the MP5 for a cheeky R9-0 shotgun with Dragon’s Breath Rounds if you’re expecting more close encounters.

DMR-14

Added as part of the Cold War integration, this weapon doesn’t need anything else to be overpowered. Slap on a silencer, grip and a scope and you’ve got an extremely powerful beast – even after two nerfs.

Riot Shield & Kali Sticks

The best way to counter a sniper at long range, a Riot Shield class, decked out with EOD and either Hardened or Amped, helps you to close the gap. Pair with stun grenades and a melee weapon of choice to be menace, particularly in solo matches where it is usually 1v1.

Now that your Operator is armed with some of the basics on how to create great Warzone loadouts it’s time to follow Ghost into Verdansk and get some dubs, just watch out for that gas.
